Working group of historical research institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Working Group of Historical Research Institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany eV (AHF) was a network of institutions of German historical studies. With the historical bibliography, it published one of the two authoritative bibliographies of German historical studies. On September 20, 2013, an extraordinary general meeting decided to dissolve the AHF at the end of 2013 due to a lack of financial resources.

society

The AHF was founded in 1972 and gained legal capacity as a registered association in 1979 . It pursued exclusively and directly charitable purposes. Members were non-university scientific organizations that conduct or promote historical research. The AHF had 90 member institutions. Since 1983 Christoph von Maltzahn was the managing director of the association.

tasks

The AHF saw itself as a service provider for German historians. Its central tasks were to represent the common interests of its member institutions and to intensify scientific cooperation, especially in the area of documentation and communication of historical research in Germany.

Yearbook of Historical Research and Historical Bibliography

Another core task was the publication of the yearbook of historical research and the historical bibliography, which, along with the annual reports for German history, is the most important bibliography in German historical studies. While the yearbook documents the historical specialist literature that is created annually at German university and non-university research institutions, i.e. has not yet been published, the Historical Bibliography is a documentation of historical specialist literature of German provenance that has already been published .

The peculiarity of both documentaries is the fact that the titles listed in them were mainly reported by the authors themselves. The yearbook and historical bibliography are thus the product of the historians employed at German research institutions. The AHF editorial team supplemented these title reports with the analysis of numerous historical journals and collected works as well as title reports from the Bavarian State Library from its special history collection area .

Both data collections have been published annually as book editions since 1974 (JB) and 1986 (HB); In addition, all years since 1990 are summarized and regularly updated until the end of 2013 in the Historical Bibliography Online, an online database that has been freely accessible since January 2010 and operated by AHF in cooperation with Oldenbourg Verlag and since 2014 by Verlag De Gruyter Oldenbourg alone becomes.

AHF information

AHF-Information, the AHF's communication service, published current information from the member institutions, an event calendar, conference reports and book advertisements from the field of German history on the AHF website and in a monthly newsletter. Once a year, the AHF also published several detailed research reports on a field of historical studies as part of the yearbook of historical research.
