The Renewable Energy Statistics Working Group (AGEE-Stat) is an independent German specialist committee for the creation of comprehensive, up-to-date statistics on the use of renewable energies .

history

The AGEE-Stat was set up in 2004 by the Federal Environment Ministry in agreement with the Federal Ministry of Economics and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. With this, politicians reacted to the strong upswing in renewable energies since the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) came into force in 2000. The rapid expansion required continuous, detailed monitoring based on reliable statistics. The current managing director of the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) , Frithjof Staiß, played a key role in the development of AGEE-Stat . As the former head of the ZSW department, Staiß was appointed the first head of AGEE-Stat. After many years of support from the ZSW, the coordinating office of AGEE-Stat moved to the Federal Environment Agency on January 1, 2016 .

tasks

The AGEE-Stat accounts for the expansion of renewable energies in Germany and continuously updates statistics. These then form the basis for the Federal Government to fulfill numerous national and international reporting obligations. Thanks to the expert committee, the successes in the expansion of renewable energies can be read in numbers. It also provides general information and public relations work on data and the development of renewable energies.

research

One of the goals of the working group is to solve statistical problems that have not yet been solved. AGEE-Stat therefore carries out various research work to improve the database and scientific calculation methods. The AGEE-Stat organizes technical discussions and workshops and awards short studies on statistical and methodological questions to scientific institutions. The results from these events and studies flow into the statistics and are made publicly available.

organization

The AGEE-Stat meets four times a year. The members agree on current data, data sources and their plausibility as well as on methodological questions. The AGEE-Stat coordinator, who has been the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) since January 1, 2016, is responsible for collecting and checking data for plausibility, as well as setting up and maintaining databases and statistics. Its employees continuously evaluate the available data sources and compare the statistics with the data from other institutions as well as from associations and other actors.
