Arcato Quartet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Arcato Quartet is a string quartet ensemble that was founded in Leipzig in 1999 .

history

The origin of the quartet goes back to the MDR symphony orchestra , in which all founding members played. The aim was to gain chamber music experience in addition to playing in an orchestra. The members studied in Leipzig or Dresden with Gerhard Bosse , Hiltrud Ilg , Uta Vincze and Wolfgang Weber. With Eva Heinig, who works as a violinist in the orchestra of the Halle Opera House , the quartet extends beyond Leipzig.

repertoire

The focus of the quartet is on the classical and romantic works of their genre, such as B. by Mozart, Borodin, Janáček and Shostakovich. In addition, the quartet also takes care of pieces by rather unknown composers, such as Sulchan Fjodorowitsch Zinzadze , whose fourth string quartet was recorded on the radio for the MDR .

The Arcato Quartet occurs u. a. regularly in the "Rathauskonzert" series of the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig's Old Town Hall (most recently in June 2009) as well as in the Gohliser Schlösschen and the Royal Kurhaus in Bad Elster.
