The Archives of the Cathedral of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Archivo de la Catedral de Canarias) belongs to the Santa Ana Cathedral and is located in the Plaza de Santa Ana, s / n. 35001 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , the capital of the Spanish Canary Island Gran Canaria . Its archive holdings go back to the late 15th century.

History and holdings

The archive dates back to 1483, when the Cabildo catedralicio of Seville, on the instructions of the bishop, had the first statutes of the Santa Ana Cathedral compiled. These statutes have been in the archive since then.

The archive comprises four halls, each of which contains different holdings. In the Sala de Contaduría you will find the Domhütte's account books with all receipts, building instructions, documents and other archival documents from business transactions. In the Sala de Secretaría , the files from the area around the Cabildo, especially those from the 18th century, such as those relating to prebends and ownership. In the Sala del Aula Capitular , probably the most important part of the archive, you can find the files of the Cabildo from 1514, the Libros de Recepciones from 1592, documents and copies that were arranged for and by the Cabildo and that go back to 1638 the Libros de Comisiones y Pleitos from 1675, as well as the Secret Archives (Archivo Secreto). In the Sala de Música there are collections on the history of music , which go back to the 17th century; A separate catalog was created for indexing.

There are 320 parchment documents in the house, including papal bulls and brevés , which date back to the early 16th century, but also royal documents and letters, including the cédulas reales from 1477.

The associated library comprises 4,000 volumes, including 60 works from the 16th century, 190 from the 17th and 496 from the 18th century, and 702 from the 19th century. The range of topics is extremely broad, but focuses on theology , sacred scriptures, canon law and councils , but also morality, liturgy , philosophy and history.
