The archive of the Lippe Regional Church is the central archive of the Lippe Regional Church . It is located in the regional church office of the Lippische Landeskirche in Detmold and belongs to the Association of Church Archives .

tasks

The archive of the Lippe Regional Church safeguards, preserves and makes the church archive material accessible.

On March 27, 1939, the Lippe regional synod passed the church law for the formation of a regional church archive, but it would take another three decades until the law was actually implemented with the employment of the first full-time archivist (1972-2014).

In 1993 the archive was able to move into its rooms (office and reading room) in the new building of the regional church office. The extensive new building also included a fully air-conditioned magazine with mobile shelving systems for the growing stocks.

In addition to advising private and scientific users, the archive's tasks also include making the archive material in the magazine usable and available. Another focus of the church's archival work is the assistance and advice (archive maintenance) of the individual parishes on their current and already completed documents that arise in the registry. It is up to the parishes whether they want to store their archives on site in their parish archives or whether they would like to take advantage of the offer of transfer (deposit) to the archives of the Lippe Regional Church.

Stocks

The archive keeps sources on the history of the Lippe regional church going back to the 15th century. The archival material is summarized in over 60 holdings with a scope of currently more than 2500 running meters. The most important stock groups are:

  • Files of the consistory or (from 1931) regional church office
  • Files and documents of individual parishes and superintendents
  • Files from church institutions and associations
  • Church records
  • Bequests and files of individual persons of church life (also supraregional)
  • Collections

Since autumn 2016, some church registers can be viewed online as digital copies via the church register portal. More digital copies from parishes in Lippe will gradually be placed there.
