Arcus palmaris profundus

Vascular arches of the hand

In the arcus palmaris profundus (“deep palm arch”) there is an anastomotic arch that lies directly against the metacarpal bones in the depth of the metacarpal . The deep palm arch lies under the flexor tendons of the fingers. In humans, the branch of the radial artery ( arteria radialis ) returning from the back of the hand to the palm of the hand and the branch of the ulnar artery ( arteria ulnaris ) unite here . From the arcus palmaris profundus arise the deep metacarpal arteries ( arteriae metacarpales palmares ), whose anastomoses with the superficial metacarpal arteries ( arteriae digitales palmares communes ) ensure the blood supply of the fingers.

In domestic animals, the arteria radialis connects in the arcus palmaris profundus with branches of the arteria interossea caudalis (dog, cat, pig), arteria ulnaris (dog, cat), arteria interossea cranialis (ruminant) or arteria mediana (horse).
