Ardo Hansson (born July 15, 1958 in Chicago ) is an Estonian- American economist. Since June 2012 he has been President of the Estonian Central Bank ( Eesti Pank ).

Life

Ardo Hansson, who has both Estonian and US citizenship, received his PhD in Economics from Harvard University . After initially working in the university sector, he worked as an advisor for the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1991 to 1992 and as an advisor to the Estonian Prime Minister from 1992 to 1995 and 1997 .

From 1993 to 1998 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Estonia. He was a member of the currency reform committee in Estonia and is considered to be the originator of the plan to peg the Estonian kroon to the German mark .

From 1998 to 2012 he worked as an economist at the World Bank , where he was responsible for Eastern European countries and the Balkans, as well as for China. On June 7, 2012, Hansson became President of the Central Bank of Estonia, succeeding Andres Lipstok . In this capacity he is a member of the Council of the European Central Bank .

Ardo Hansson has published various articles in scientific journals.
