Andres Lipstok

Andres Lipstok (born February 6, 1957 in Haapsalu ) is an Estonian economist and politician, from 2005 to 2012 President of the Estonian Central Bank ( Eesti Pank ).

Life

Lipstok graduated from high school in Haapsalu in 1975. From 1975 to 1980 he studied money economics and banking at the University of Tartu .

Andres Lipstok started a financial career early on in the Estonian SSR . From 1980 to 1983 he was the vice chairman of the finance department of the Haapsalu District Executive Committee and from 1983 to 1986 department head. From 1986 to 1989 he was chairman of the Haapsalu District Planning Committee and, in 1989, briefly deputy minister of finance of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic.

From 1989 to 1994, Lipstok was District Administrator of Läänemaa County . In 1994 he joined the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Estonian Eesti Reformierakond ). In 1994/95 he was Finance Minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andres Tarand , then in 1995/96 in the government of Prime Minister Tiit Vähi Minister of Economics of the Republic of Estonia. From 1996 to 2005 he was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) for the Reform Party .

From June 7, 2005, Andres Lipstok succeeded Vahur Kraft as President of Eesti Pank . He was succeeded on June 7, 2012 by Ardo Hansson .

Andres Lipstok is married and has a daughter and a son.
