Ardross Castle is a ruined castle about 1.6 km east of Elie in the Scottish county of Fife . William Dishington , son of Sir William , who died in 1360, is believed to be the initiator of the castle's construction.

description

The ruins consist of two related, rectangular fragments, about 13 meters above the beach.

The northern fragment probably dates from the 15th century and is the older of the two. It was a small tower with a footprint of 8.75 meters × 11.2 meters. The walls are about 1.8 meters thick. The entrance was on the south gable wall and to the north was another building that no longer exists today.

The second fragment covers an area of 23.7 meters by 5.8 meters and also has 1.8 meters thick walls. It is connected to the tower in the north by the remains of a short wall. There is evidence that there was a spiral staircase on the southeast corner .
