Argentin

Argentin is a name for substances used to create silver, silver-like and silver-plated surfaces (argentate). Various mixtures were used for this in the past:

  1. Argentin, a light gray, finely divided powder made from metallic tin . It was used to produce fake silver paper, fake silver foil and as a pigment for silver printing ink. For example, for silver printing on textiles. The Argentin was made by precipitating tin from a tin-salt solution using metallic zinc . When mixed with casein as a binding agent, a silver-like surface is formed during the subsequent calendering of the applied mixture.
