ArgoUML is in Java written free platform independent UML tool ( CASE tool ) for describing, modeling and simulation (the latter only in a future expansion stage) of ( software -) systems and for code - generation . The further development of ArgoUML has suffered from the low number of volunteer developers for years. This may have been the reason that the free software project turned into a commercial site project. Gentleware offers a commercial closed source version of ArgoUML ( Poseidon for UML ) under the BSD license .

Properties of ArgoUML

The program is compatible with the UML Standard Version 1.4, but its scope is not as large as that of Version 2. Graphically created designs / software architectures (models) can be converted into program code for the most common programming languages , and vice versa, existing program code can be converted automatically be transferred back into a graphic design / software architecture (model) ( reverse engineering ). In 2005 the program was downloaded over half a million times.
