Argyphia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Argyphie ( ancient Greek Ἀργυφίη Argyphíē ) is one of the wives of Aigyptus , the twin brother of Danaos , in Greek mythology , and came from the royal family. With Aigyptus she had six sons: Lynkeus , Proteus , Busiris , Enkelados , Lykos and Daiphron .

While at the mass wedding of the 50 sons of Aegyptos with the 50 daughters of Danaos the lot decided on the pairing, two of their sons were assigned the daughters of Danaos from their marriage to Elephantis because of their royal origin : Proteus married Gorgophone while his Brother Lynkeus Hypermestra , the eldest daughter of Danaos, received. The other sons were married to the daughters of Europe , a daughter of Neilos . Like the other sons of Aegyptus, all the sons of Argyphia were slain except for Lynkeus; Lynkeus, however, was spared by Hypermestra because he had respected her virginity.
