Ariamnes
Ariamnes was in the 4th century BC. A satrap of Cappadocia under the rule of the Persian empire of the Achaemenids .
Its existence is obscure because it is mentioned only once in the traditions. In Diodor's family tree of the royal dynasty of Cappadocia, Ariamnes is mentioned as the son of Datames and father of Ariarathes I and Holophernes. He is said to have ruled for 50 years.
At least the filiation of datames is viewed as implausible in recent research. According to Diodorus, the Cappadocian royal dynasty claimed descent from a certain "King Pharnakes of Cappadocia" (probably the Achaemenid Pharnakes ), who married a sister of Cyrus II and among whose descendants was one of the seven conspirators against Gaumata named Anaphas and Datames should have. But since the Datames biography of Cornelius Nepos alone assigns this to a completely different family background, the lineage described by Diodorus from "King Pharnakes" to Ariamnes can be regarded as purely fictitious.
