Arif Güney (* 1953 in Ordu ) is a former Turkish soccer player . He played his entire career for Orduspor and was involved in the most important successes in the club's history. Through his many years of activity and as a home grown man, he is considered one of the most important players in the club's history. With 205 first division appearances, he is the player with the fourth most Süper Lig appearances in the club's history and with 20 goals the second most successful first division scorer of the club.

Player career

society

Güney started his professional career in the 1972/73 season with Orduspor, the second division club in his hometown Ordu. The provincial club, initiated by a reform in Turkish football, was only founded in the summer of 1967 through the merger of several clubs. Here he made his professional debut in the league game on November 12, 1972 against İstanbulspor . After this mission, two more competitive appearances followed in the first half of the season. He then stayed without a competitive game until April 1980 and then rose to become a regular player. His club missed the declared goal of promotion this season and the next. It was not until the 1974/75 season that the team succeeded in the second division championship and thus the first ascent in the club's history in the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi . Güney, who had lost his regular place again in the 1973/74 season, stayed on the bench in the championship season. It was not until the first season of the first division that he moved up to the top team again. With his team, Güney played more in the first three first division seasons to stay in the league and always occupied double-digit positions. In the 1978/79 season , the team finished the first division completely surprisingly in fourth place in the table and thus achieved the best first division placement in the club's history. As a winger with five first division goals, Güney was one of the most successful goal scorers in his team.

In contrast to some of his teammates, Güney did not leave his club after this 4th place in the table in the 1st Lig despite a request and went back to the Türkiye 2nd Futbol Ligi in the summer of 1981 . Here he reached with Orduspor in the 1982/83 season for the second time the second division championship and thus the return to the first division. After three first division seasons he remained loyal to Orduspor despite relegation again and went with this in the second division. In the summer of 1987 ended his career.

National team

Güney's national team career began in June 1975 with an assignment for the Turkish U-21 national team .

In 1975 he was nominated for the first time and for the squad of the Turkish national team as part of a qualifying game of the 1980 European Championship against the Welsh national team by coach Sabri Kiraz and made his international debut in this game.

Overall, Güney completed two U-21 and two A internationals for Turkey.
