Arif Lohar

Arif Lohar (* 1966 ) ( Punjabi عارف لوہار) is a folk music singer in the Pakistani province of Punjab . He often accompanies himself with the pliers-like percussion instrument chimta .

Lohar is the son of the singer Alam Lohar . Born in a small village called Aach Goch in the Gujrat district of Punjab, he began to sing folk music to keep his father's tradition alive.

In 2005, Lohar was awarded the Pride of Performance award, Pakistan's highest civil award. Today he has released more than 150 albums and has sung around 3000 songs, most of which were sung in Punjabi. Lohar sang his biggest hit to date, 21st Century Jugni , in 2006, making headlines across the country.

In the past 20 years Lohar has completed over 50 international tours, including in countries such as Great Britain , the United Arab Emirates , and the United States and China .

Lohar has also taken on supporting roles in various films
