Gujrat is a Pakistani city in the Gujrat District of the Punjab Province . It is located between Islamabad and Lahore , near the Chanab River . According to a 2017 census, 390,533 people live in Gujrat.
The Battle of Gujrat decided the Second Sikh War in 1849 .
The clay soils in the area around Gujrat are used for the cultivation of rice and sugar cane , agriculture and the cultivation of both products still play a major role today. Furthermore, pottery, brassware , furniture and cotton products are important goods.
The city's climate tends to have little rainfall all year round, but heavy rainfall also occurs during the monsoon season from June to August, with a rainfall of up to 670 mm. There is often a slight flood in some parts of the city. Temperatures vary from around freezing point in winter to 45 ° C in summer.
The nearest major city is Lahore , which is about 120 km south of Gujrat. It is located on the Chanab River . Gujrat has a university, several colleges and two large bazaars (shopping centers) and is a lively city, especially in the evening.
