Johannes Geffert

Johannes Geffert (born February 23, 1951 in Bonn ) is a German organist and church musician .

Life

After graduating from high school, Johannes Geffert studied Protestant church music with Michael Schneider at the University of Music in Cologne. After completing his studies at the age of 22, he completed his training with Nicolas Kynaston in London.

His first office as cantor took him from 1974 to 1979 to the Anna Church in Aachen, where he also directed the Aachen Bach Society . This was followed by the assumption of the office of cantor at the traditional Kreuzkirche in Bonn , where he worked for many years as church music director .

After many years of teaching at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf , Johannes Geffert was appointed professor for artistic organ playing and improvisation at the Cologne University of Music in 1997 ; there he also heads the department for Protestant church music.

Today Johannes Geffert is active as an interpreter and as a music teacher on master classes all over the world. In addition, he regularly devotes himself to the performance of new and newest organ works.

Geffert also publishes organ literature, including a. a 26-volume series on organ music from England and America.
