Ariobarzanes I. (Kios)
Ariobarzanes I von Kios lived in the 5th century and was a Persian satrap in Phrygia . After Sallust and Florus , a certain Artabazes , who is identified with Ariobarzanes I, was the first known representative of the Mithridatic dynasty, which later founded the kingdom of Pontus in the 3rd century .
According to Herodotus , Ariobarzanes accompanied Xerxes I on his army campaigns and was rewarded with the satrapy of Phrygia, which the satrap Megabates administered before him .
The father of Ariobarzanes was Pharnaces, a relative of Darius I. He belonged to the Achaemenid dynasty through this connection. It is believed that he later married a daughter of Gobryas and thus came into possession of Mariandynia after the death of his father-in-law.
