Arioso

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Arioso ( plural : Ariosi ) is a piece of music for a solo - vocal and instrumental accompaniment . An arioso is more vocal and less committed to dramatic spoken chant than the recitative , but of a more open and less fixed form than the aria .

Ariosi are usually not found individually, but as movements of operas , oratorios or cantatas ; typical texts are e.g. B. Biblical words that do not rhyme but are less narrative than lyrical in character. In a way, the Arioso could therefore be considered a successor to the free solo adrigal .
