Arkadi Jurjewitsch Volosch ( Russian Аркадий Юрьевич Волож ; born February 11, 1964 in Gurjew , Kazakh SSR ) is a Russian computer scientist , entrepreneur, founder of the Yandex company and today's billionaire .

life and career

Arkadi Wolosch was born in Gurjew (now Atyrau) in the Kazakh Soviet Republic. He began studying applied mathematics at the Moscow State Oil and Gas Institute , graduating in 1986. He then worked as an entrepreneur and founded several companies, including the software manufacturer Arkadia.

In 1993 he founded the IT company Comptek together with Ilja Segalowitsch . At Comptek, together with Segalowitsch and Jelena Kolmanowskaja, he developed the Internet search engine Yandex, which was officially launched in 1997 - one year before Google. Yandex was the first search engine to be able to process Cyrillic characters. Two years later, Yandex was already one of the most popular websites in Russia. In 2000, Yandex was finally founded as a separate company and, within a few years, developed into a multi-billion dollar corporation that today also operates numerous other products in addition to the search engine and is active in numerous other countries outside of Russia.

Arkady Volosh's fortune is estimated at around $ 1.15 billion today. He is still active as the managing director of Yandex.
