Arlington Canal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Arlington Canal is a small irrigation canal in western Maricopa County in the US state of Arizona . It serves as an irrigation system and is branched off from the Gila River about 3 miles east of the village of Arlington. The entire length of the canal is "tapped" by a system of ditches and troughs for irrigation of agricultural crops in the area around Arlington. These trenches end again in the Gila River or in other irrigation channels.

The Arlington Canal ended at the Gillespie Dam , which was built to regulate the water level of the Gila River and the Gila Bend Canal . However, the dam was insufficiently dimensioned and destroyed when a dam broke ( Gillespie Dam Collapse ).
