from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Armen-Ball-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 176). The work was performed for the first time on January 7, 1856 in Schwenders Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was composed and performed there on the occasion of a ball to support the poor in Vienna's Reindorf district. The venue for the event was the local Schwenders Casino run by the entrepreneur Carl Schwender (1806–1866) and named after him . Originally the polka was called Reindorfer Poor Ball Polka . Since Johann Strauss also played the work at similar poor balls in other parts of Vienna, the title name was changed to Armen-Ball-Polka .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 21 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
