Remarks

The polka was written for Mardi Gras in 1856 and premiered at a concert by the Strauss Orchestra in Schwenders Casino . The lively work should, at least temporarily, make the audience and dancers forget their worries. This is where the title name is derived from. At the time, Strauss achieved great success with this polka. It was played often and with pleasure not only in Vienna, but also in Russia, where Strauss traveled in the summer of the premiere year. There it was one of the most popular pieces in his repertoire.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 13 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
