The Armenian All-National Movement ( Armenian Հայոց Համազգային Շարժում Hajoz Hamasgajin Sharjum ; abbreviation ՀՀՇ or HHS) was a political party in Armenia founded on February 20, 1988 , which arose as a result of a resolution by the Nagorno-Karabakh Region Autonomous Council ; The aim was the reunification of Nagorno-Karabakh with Soviet Armenia .

history

During the reign of President Levon Ter-Petrosyan (1991-1998) the Armenian All-National Movement became the dominant political force in Armenia and was part of the Republican bloc. After Ter Petrosjan resigned, it sank into insignificance. It was regarded as moderate national and advocated a liberal economic policy . The last chairmanship was Ararat Surabjan (resigned in June 2010), then Aram Manukjan .

After more than 25 years, the All-National Movement merged with other opposition parties on February 23, 2013 to form the Armenian National Congress . Individual members of the movement did not take this step and continued a small party under the old name. The chairman of this shrunken all-national movement has been Ararat Surabjan since 2013, who had resigned as chairman only three years earlier. For the 2017 parliamentary elections , he entered the electoral list of the Zarukjan Alliance and thus entered parliament. However, he lost the mandate a year later as a result of the early elections in 2018 .

Meaning of the party name

In Western languages, the party was often incorrectly referred to as "Pan-Armenian", but this is due to a translation error; the prefix ham refers to the adjective "national", so the correct translation is "allnational". It refers to the Armenian diaspora .
