Armin A. Dassler (born September 15, 1929 in Herzogenaurach ; † October 14, 1990 ) was a German entrepreneur and sports shoe manufacturer. He was a son of Puma founder Rudolf Dassler and nephew of Adidas founder Adolf Dassler .

Live and act

Armin Dassler joined the management of his father's company in 1952 and initially took care of sales in the USA.

In 1961 there was a dispute between Armin and Rudolf Dassler. Armin Dassler paid off and moved to Salzburg, where he began producing sports shoes under the Puma name in 1962.

For sales outside of Austria a license had to be paid to Puma KG Germany. In 1963 there was a contract change and Puma Austria sold shoes to England and the USA under the name CONDOR-DASSLER. In the end, the ventures were so successful that Rudolf asked his son to come back to Germany at the end of the 1960s.

The dispute between the sons of the warring Dassler family, Horst Dassler (son of Adolf Dassler) and Armin Dassler, and thus the adidas and Puma companies, escalated in 1970. In previous years, the fathers had made agreements on the conclusion of contracts with athletes and clubs. In the case of the Brazilian soccer player Pelé , a kind of peace agreement was signed before the 1970 World Cup, an oral agreement not to hold betting. Contrary to this so-called “Pelé Pact”, Armin Dassler signed Pelé for Puma. This was the beginning of the "sons war".

In 1974 Armin Dassler took over the management of Puma together with his younger brother Gerd after the death of their father .

In 1985 Boris Becker became the first German to win the Wimbledon final using Puma shoes and rackets. In 1986 the limited partnership went public as a stock corporation. In order to get closer to Adidas economically, Armin Dassler had Puma shoes u. a. produce for large discount chains, which, however, was detrimental to the brand image at the time and also led to economic difficulties for the company.

Due to a cancer, Armin Dassler sold his shares in the Puma company in 1989 to the trading group Cosa Liebermann SA .

Armin Dassler had 3 sons. The older sons Frank (* 1956) and Jörg Dassler (* 1957) were active at Puma until the company was sold.
