The Armitstead Monument is a memorial to the Mayor of the City of Riga George Armitstead in the Latvian capital.

It is located in Basteiberg Park on the eastern edge of Riga's old town, north of the Latvian National Opera . The city ​​canal runs directly to the east of the monument .

The monument was created in 2006 by the sculptor Andris Vārpa , Kristīne Vīzine was the architect and Denis Gocchiyev was the metalworker . Funding came from entrepreneurs Yevgeny Gomberg and Rodney Radcliffe, a relative of Armitstead. The monument, unveiled on October 18, 2006 by the British Queen Elizabeth II and the Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga , shows the mayor George Armitstead, who was in office from 1901 to 1912, as a life-size sculpture . He is accompanied by a sculpture depicting his wife Cecile Armitstead . The couple is supported by their Chow-Chow Sunset .

Behind the group of figures is a plaque with an inscription in Latvian and English , which gives the names of the people portrayed, the date and the fact of the unveiling by Elizabeth II and the names of the financiers.
