Armstrong Siddeley Mongoose
The Armstrong Siddeley Mongoose is an aircraft engine that the British manufacturer Armstrong Siddeley built from 1926. The 5-cylinder radial engine has a displacement of 8849 cm³ and has a maximum output of 155 bhp (115 kW). Among other things, the engine was used in the Hawker Tomtit training aircraft and in the Parnall Peto seaplane .
construction and development
The Mongoose is a single-row, air-cooled 5-cylinder radial engine. The engine has dual front-mounted magnetos and overhead valves with encapsulated valve trains. Its cylinders correspond to those of the older Jaguar model . A notable detail of the Mongoose is the vertical position of the lower cylinder, a construction that was believed to have damaged the spark plugs from dripping oil.
The Mongoose was built in different variants. Its output varies from 135 bhp (100 kW) to 155 bhp (115 kW).
