Army of the United States
The Army of the United States ( AUS ) is a currently inactive form of organization of the United States' ground forces . It serves to integrate conscripts into the service who should complement the professional core of the ground forces, the United States Army . The AUS is not to be confused with the two-tier reservist system of the professional army, which consists of the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard . The Army of the United States is to be regarded as the successor to the identical National Army from the First World War .
The statements were prepared in Army of the United States after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Despite a modernization program, the United States was ill-prepared for war since it after American way of thinking was traditional, the size of the armed forces to a necessary minimum of a regular army to to reduce. The United States followed this tradition in a particularly drastic manner after the First World War.
After the end of the Second World War , the AUS was deactivated and all promotions from this time were declared void, as this represented an aspect of the necessary reduction. The AUS was reactivated for the Korean War and the Vietnam War . Under the influence of the Vietnam War, Congress deactivated the AUS and made the US Army more professional , so that reactivation would involve high political, military and financial costs. However, all male citizens of the United States between the ages of 21 and 45 are required to register in a registration system called the Selective Service System for this case .
