Arnljótr gellini ( Norwegian / Swedish Arnljot Gelline ; † July 29, 1030 at Stiklestad ) is a character from the saga of Olaf the saint of Heimskringla . He was a peacemaker who lived in the Jämtland area . He is described as a well-dressed, tall man. His nickname gellini speaks for his origins in the village of Gällö .

According to the saga, he is said to have helped Þóroddr Snorrason , who was sent to Jämtland by King Olav Haraldsson as a tax collector , on the escape from Jämtland to Nidaros ( Trondheim ) in the winter of 1026/1027 . Arnljótr gellini led Þóroddr Snorrason and his followers through the mountains. Since Arnljótr was not going fast enough, he instructed the two of them to get on his skis behind him so that the three of them were on one pair of skis. They spent the night in a hut into which a troll woman broke in during the night and also killed merchants who were sleeping there. Arnljótr was able to drive the troll woman to flight by piercing her with his spear.

Before the Battle of Stiklestad , Arnljótr Gellini joined the army of King Olav Haraldsson and was baptized. He was killed in battle.

The “three men on one pair of skis” are now the logo of the Norwegian Ski Association ( Norges Ski Association ).
