Stiklestad is a town in the Verdal municipality in the Trøndelag province in central Norway .

Stiklestad is best known for the Battle of Stiklestad , in which the Norwegian national hero Olav the Saint (Saint Olav) was killed on July 29, 1030. This was an important milestone in Norway's transition to Christianity. Every year the last days of Saint Olav are remembered with a play: Spelet om Heilag Olav (The Play of Saint Olav). This piece was first performed in 1954 .

Stiklestad Nasjonale Kultursenter is an active institution that maintains a museum, an open-air theater and a historic cemetery. The associated course and conference hotel and the Stiklestad Church also offer many cultural activities.

A national monument was erected in 1944 on the historical site of Stiklestad by the National Socialist Party in Norway, Nasjonal Samling . The memorial was created by the sculptor Wilhelm Rasmussen and the then Prime Minister Vidkun Quisling inaugurated it. After the end of the German occupation in May 1945 and the ban on Nasjonal Samling , the memorial was removed.
