Arnold to the tower
Arnold zum Turm ( de turri ; † approx. 1266) is dedicated as Arnold von Thurn, founder of the Rhine City Federation, † MCCLXIV in the Walhalla, the commemorative plaque No. 56.
Together with Arnold Walpod, he is considered the founder of the Rhenish Association of Cities . According to documents, Arnold was city treasurer of the Archbishop of Mainz from 1238 until at least October 15, 1263 . Since his son Eberhard held this office from 1266, it is assumed that Arnold died that year.
Arnold was related to the Lords of Dornberg and, according to the order of the last male representative of the Dornbergs, Konrad von Dornberg, should receive the Dornberg family estates including Dornberg Castle . This did not happen, however, because the fiefs were interpreted as having fallen back and then re-assigned to the Counts of Katzenelnbogen .
