Doug MacLeod (* 1946 in New York City , USA ) is an American blues singer , guitarist and songwriter. He lives in California today.

Life

MacLeod graduated from the Berklee School of Music , then played jazz and the blues guitar in the musical Grease . Doug MacLeod only focused on the blues later. He was inspired by the singer and blues harp player Shakey Jake Harris (1921–1990). In the late 1970s he moved to the Los Angeles area and began his career as a blues musician. There he played alongside well-known blues musicians such as Pee Wee Crayton , Lowell Fulson , Big Mama Thornton , Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson and Big Joe Turner . In the 1980s he founded his own band and the first publications appeared.

In 1994 he devoted himself to acoustic playing, for which he was nominated several times for the WCHandy Awards .

On his tours he also performs in Europe. In addition to his music, the program also includes a passage with little anecdotes and everyday wisdom, since he writes a story as a storyteller for the US Blues Revue every month.

From 1992 to 1994 MacLeod was a radio host and hosted The Blues Highway radio show, which aired on EuroJazz . From 1999 to 2004 he hosted Nothin 'But The Blues , a blues show on KLON-KKJZ's weekend program in Los Angeles. In addition, Doug MacLeod was the voice for The Blues Showcase of Continental Airlines .

Today MacLeod has released twelve studio albums, live recordings and two DVDs, as well as around 350 compositions that have been covered by various musicians. He also wrote the score for In the Heat of the Night .
