Shakey Jake Harris

Shakey Jake Harris (born April 12, 1921 in Earle (Arkansas) , † March 2, 1990 in Forrest City ) was an American blues singer and songwriter.

Life

Harris was born as James D. Harris in Earle and went with his parents to Chicago at the age of seven , where he then played in various blues ensembles. He was also active as a mechanic and gambler.

Harris' first single was released in 1958 under the Artistic Records label and in collaboration with Magic Sam , Syl Johnson and Willie Dixon . It wasn't until two years later that he released his first album with Jack McDuff on the "Bluesville Records" label .

He owned a nightclub and his own music label, but had to give it up due to illness and died at the age of 68.
