Forrest City is a city in St. Francis County in the US -amerikanischen State Arkansas with 14,300 inhabitants ( 2004 ) and the seat of the county administration. The urban area has a size of 42.1 km². The city is named after the southern general and founder of the Ku Klux Klan Nathan Bedford Forrest .

history

The ex-general of the Confederate Army, Nathan Bedford Forrest , signed in 1866 with CC McCreanor a contract to build a railway in the Memphis & Little Rock Railroad Madison at St. Francis River to DeValls Bluff on the west bank of the River White River had to content . The first train left in 1868. Colonel VB Izard planned the town in 1868. The population unofficially called the cluster of houses "Forrest's Town". It later became Forrest City . The city was officially founded on May 11, 1870. In 1949 evidence (fossils) was found that mastodons had lived within the city limits in prehistoric times.

Correctional facility

Forrest City is home to the Federal Correctional Complex, Forrest City (FCC Forrest City) . The prison, which holds only male inmates, is made up of two sections: The Federal Correctional Institution, Forrest City Low , a low-security prison, and the Federal Correctional Institution, Forrest City Medium (FCI Forrest City Medium), a medium-security prison.
