Aroostook Northern Railroad

The Aroostook Northern Railroad is a former railway company in Maine ( United States ). It existed as an independent company from 1897 to 1901.

history

The company was founded in July 1897 and built a 25.6 kilometer long railway line from Caribou to Limestone , which they opened that same year. Before the opening, the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad leased the Aroostook Northern on November 27, 1897 and finally acquired it on July 1, 1901. The route has been under the direction of the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway since 2003 and is now mainly used to connect the Loring Commerce Center , a former military airfield north of Limestone.
