Arshak Adamyan

Arshak Abgarowitsch Adamjan ( Armenian Արշակ Ադամյան Arshak Adamyan , Russian Аршак Абгарович Адамян Arshak Abgarowitsch Adamjan * April 22 jul. / May 4, 1884 greg. In Baku , Russian Empire ; † 17 February 1956 in Yerevan ) was a Soviet conductor, Musicologist, music critic and philosopher of Armenian origin.

Life

Assak Adamjan, his brother Hovannes Adamjan (1879–1932), the inventor of color television, and their sisters Eugenia and Elenadas, who were famous as piano duo, came from a family that had become rich in the oil business. Arschak studied piano and composition at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin from 1904 to 1906 . In 1910 he graduated from the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg University . After the collapse of the tsarist empire, he studied philosophy at the universities of Baku and Astrakhan . From 1921 to 1924 he was the head of a House of Armenian Art in Tbilisi . From 1924 to 1926 he was the director of the Yerevan Conservatory. In 1924 and 1925 he founded an orchestra of lecturers and students from the Conservatory, from which the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra ANPO developed. The first official concert under the direction of Adamjan took place on March 20, 1925. From 1926 to 1936 he was artistic advisor to the Transcaucasian Central Executive Committee. From 1936 to 1943 he was dean of the music theory and composition department of the Leningrad Conservatory and the Institute for Drama and Music. From 1944 to 1949 he was a research officer in the Philosophy Department of the Armenian Academy of Sciences. In 1945 he received the title of Honored Artist of the Armenian SSR . 1950 to 1956 he taught aesthetics at the Art and Theater Institute and the Conservatory in Yerevan. He wrote internationally known works on aesthetics, for example views on aesthetics in medieval Armenia .

Commemoration

Alexander Alexandrowitsch Farbstein wrote a monograph on Arshak Adamyan that was published in 1989. In 2016 Arshak Adamyan, the first artistic director and chief conductor of the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra ANPO, was inaugurated a memorial plaque in Yerevan by the Armenian musicologist Professor Armen Budaghyan. It is located on the Mesrop Maschtotz prospect at house number 43.
