Art Aurea ( spelling ART AUREA ) is an art and culture magazine that was founded in 1985. The editor-in-chief and publisher of the bilingual magazine (German and English) is Reinhold Ludwig. The print magazine Art Aurea is distributed internationally with a circulation of around 4,500 copies. About 40 percent of readers are subscribers. The majority of the circulation is distributed via station kiosks as well as galleries and shops.

The editorial focus is on handicrafts and design from classical modernism to the present. The magazine deals with objects from the fields of ceramics, furniture design, textile art, contemporary jewelry, studio glass and the like. In addition to portraits of designers, manufacturers and artists, interviews and reports, the magazine reports on exhibitions, auctions and events in all areas of applied art . The magazine operates an internet platform on which, in addition to magazine content and articles, various designers and artists are represented with profiles. The company headquarters and the editorial office are in Ulm .

history

The first version of Art Aurea appeared from 1985 to 1996 and then went into the title Schmuck Magazin . In 2007 Reinhold Ludwig set up as a freelance publisher in order to document the work of designers, studios and manufacturers in the field of applied art, contemporary jewelry and design on his own and to convey it to the public. In 2009 the website artaurea.com and artaurea.de went online. In 2010 Reinhold Ludwig re-founded the magazine under the title Art Aurea . When it was founded in 2010, the magazine's circulation rose continuously from 2,000 to 4,500.

Editorial staff and staff

Art Aurea works with freelance editors, photographers and translators. Art director is Florian Ludwig. Contributions by photographers and authors are published.

Grassi Fair

The winter edition contains the editorial part of the catalog of the Grassimesse , which takes place annually in October in Leipzig. This issue of the magazine appears in an increased edition of 5,200 copies. In 2017, the complete catalog of Tresor - Contemporary Craft, the new trade fair for contemporary craftsmanship in Basel, appeared for the first time in the autumn edition of Art Aurea.

"Art Aurea Awards"

In 2014 the Art Aurea Awards were created, which developed from the Modern Jewelry Collection and Design & Crafts Collection competitions founded in 2009 . It honors outstanding designers, craftsmen and artists from all areas of the applied arts.
