Artapanos (satrap)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Artapanos (alternative spelling Artabanos ) was an Achaemenid satrap in Bactria under the great king Artaxerxes I. He was not identical with the regent Artabanos and the vizier Artabanos , who lived at the same time , since he is explicitly referred to as "another Artapanos" by Ktesias .

Apparently Artapanos was shortly after Artaxerxes I came to power in 465 BC. Were installed in the governor's office, since Prince Hystaspes had held this office at that time . In 463 BC He rebelled against Artaxerxes I, but was defeated by him in two battles.
