Arteria genus media

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The arteria genus media ("middle knee artery") is a small artery of the lower extremity. It arises in the hollow of the knee from the popliteal artery or the upper lateral knee artery ( superior lateral artery genus ). It then pierces the oblique popliteal ligament ( ligamentum popliteum obliquum ) and the joint capsule of the knee joint and releases branches to supply the cruciate ligaments . The terminal branches run through fine vascular holes in the intercondylar fossa into the articular knots (condyles) of the thigh bone .
