Common iliac artery

The common iliac artery ("common iliac artery ") is the bilateral main branch of the terminal branch of the aorta at the level of the fourth lumbar vertebra . After a very short stretch, the vascular trunk divides further into an external iliac artery (external pelvic artery) and an internal iliac artery (internal pelvic artery).

In dogs , cats , ruminants and horses , there is no common iliac artery; here the external and internal iliac arteries arise separately from the aorta.
