Internal pudendal artery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The internal pudendal artery emerges from the internal iliac artery , extends through the infrapiriforme foramen and supplies structures and the external genital organs located near the pelvic floor . In its course it gives off the following branches.

  • The inferior rectal artery runs mediocaudally (in the middle / below) through the ischiorectal fossa and supplies the lower rectum with both sphincters and the nearby skin.
  • The perineal artery supplies the bulbospongiosus muscle and the ischiocavernosus muscle .
  • Rami scrotales posteriores in men and Rami labiales posteriores in women supply the corresponding structures, the scrotum or the labia majora .
  • In men, the urethral artery supplies parts of the penis and the urethral section that lies in the corpus spongiosum. It extends in the corpus spongiosum to the glans. It forms anastomoses with the arteriae dorsales penis and the arteria profunda penis .
  • The arteria bulbi penis in men and arteria bulbi vestibuli vaginae in women supply the bulb penis and the Cowper glands in men and the bulb vestibuli in women.
  • Furthermore, the arteria profunda penis and the arteria dorsalis penis go to the penis and the arteria profunda clitoridis and the arteria dorsalis clitoridis to the clitoris .
