Arthur Siegel

Arthur Sidney Siegel (born August 2, 1913 in Detroit , † February 1, 1978 in Chicago ) was an American photographer .

Life

In 1937 Siegel received a bachelor's degree in sociology from Wayne State University in Detroit. With a scholarship, he went to the Institute of Design at the Armor Institute in Chicago, which László Moholy-Nagy had just founded .

In the late 1930s he started working as a photo reporter for the New York Times . After assignments for major magazines and news agencies and several years in the service of the United States Office of War Information and the United States Army Air Corps , he accepted Moholy-Nagy's invitation in 1946 to teach as head of the photography section at the Institute of Design.
