The Isleten artillery plant , army designation A 8730, is a former artillery fortress built as a rock in the Harderband near Isleten on the shores of Lake Lucerne .

history

The artillery factory was originally operated by fortress company III / 5, which belonged to fortress department 5 and thus to the Gotthard fortress . In the 1970s the fortress was assigned to Fortress Company I / 18 of Reduit Brigade 24 . With the army reform 95 , the plant was lifted and released from secrecy in 1999. The guns, which were expanded in 2002, were installed in the Halsegg artillery plant . The plant was sold to a company together with the cable car in 2010 and serves as a data center.

plant

The fortress was built into the rock between 1942 and 1943. To access them, a 65 m long winch was put into operation in 1942. In the south battery of the fortress, an inclined elevator was built from the lower end of the inclined tunnel up to Gun 1, with a middle station at Gun 2.

Mission and armament

The Isleten artillery plant had to protect the axis of incidence to the Gotthard fortresses ( Reduit ) in the Andermatt area. Its central location at the entrance to the valley to Isenthal allowed it to work both northeast towards Lake Zug and the Schwyz basin and south-east towards the Altdorf basin .

The two batteries (north and south) of the rock had a total of four 10.5 cm BK 39 L42 fortification cannons .
