Arvo Askola

Arvo Askola (born December 2, 1909 in Valkeala , † November 23, 1975 in Kuusankoski ) was a Finnish athlete .

At the European Championships in Turin in 1934, Askola won the silver medal in the 10,000 m run behind his compatriot Ilmari Salminen and ahead of the Dane Henry Nielsen . In 1936 he won Olympic silver in the same distance, where he had to admit defeat Salminen by only two tenths of a second. In 1936 he was also the Finnish champion in cross-country skiing (over 8 kilometers).
