Assad Bucaram (born December 24, 1916 in Ambato , † November 5, 1981 in Guayaquil ) was an Ecuadorian politician of the Concentración de Fuerzas Populares (CFP) and mayor of Guayaquil.

Assad Bucaram was born in Ecuador to Lebanese immigrants. Soon after his birth, his parents moved with him to Guayaquil. From 1961 he was leader of the Concentración de Fuerzas Populares and as such from 1962 until the military coup in 1963 mayor of Guayaquil. Bucaram had to go into exile and was only able to return in 1966. That year, Bucaram became Vice President of the Constituent Assembly. In 1967 he was re-elected Mayor of Guayaquils. After the return to democracy in 1979, Assad Bucaram was not allowed to run as a presidential candidate; Jaime Roldós , husband of Bucaram's niece , was a candidate for the same party . Bucaram took over the parliamentary presidency. After Roldós took office, however, there were political differences between Roldós and Bucaram, as a result of which Roldós founded his own party Pueblo, Cambio y Democracia (German people, change and democracy ) in 1980 as a split from the CFP .
