Ashtray

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ash box is located below the grate of a furnace in which solid and ash-containing substances are burned, such as coal , wood or peat . It is used to absorb the residues, especially ash , until they can be disposed of at a suitable point or at a suitable time.

In stationary incineration plants (e.g. tiled stoves , cannon stoves ) the ash box is usually designed as a movable and removable drawer, in steam locomotives the ash box is usually opened by flaps, whereby the combustion residues fall into the slag pit or the collecting tray. In addition, the ash can be extinguished using water nozzles in the ash pan while driving.
