Ashkenaz (magazine)

Ashkenaz - Journal of the History and Culture of the Jews is a scientific journal covering topics of the history and culture of Ashkenazi Judaism , i. H. of Jews from Western and Central Europe treated. The time frame covers the period from late antiquity to emancipation in the 19th century. The journal mainly publishes scientific articles and reviews of current literature in German and English .

Aschkenas was founded in 1991 by Friedrich Battenberg and Markus Wenninger and has been published twice a year by Max Niemeyer Verlag (until 2002 by Böhlau Verlag ). The annual volume is about 600 pages. The editors are Hans Otto Horch , Robert Jütte , Miriam Rürup and Markus Wenninger in connection with the Salomon Ludwig Steinheim Institute . There is a print and an online edition.
