The Ashesi University College (dt. Ashesi University) (abbreviated: AUC) in Labone, a suburb of Accra is a university college that is attached to the University of Cape Coast . The name Ashesi is borrowed from the Akan language and means beginning . It is intended to represent the beginning of a new educational approach in Ghanaian higher education.

Students

In 2002 only 30 students were studying at the university. This number rose to 60 students in 2003, 136 in 2004, 218 in 2005 and 280 students in 2006. Among the students, the proportion of female students rose steadily from 27 percent at the beginning to 40 percent of the total. The students come not only from Ghana, but from Benin , Cote d'Ivoire , Equatorial Guinea , Ethiopia , Kenya , Lebanon , Liberia , Nigeria , Palestine , Sierra Leone , Sudan , Togo and the USA .

Courses

At Ashesi University, students can earn degrees in business administration, computer science, and management / information science. The university also offers a wide range of courses in the areas of African studies and the liberal arts core.
