The Ashley Stopper Knot , also known as the Oystercatcher Stopper, is a thick stopper knot . It comes in handy when the opening for the eight knot is too big. Clifford W. Ashley , author of the standard work " The Ashley Book of Knots " and inventor of this stopper, said of the knot that it creates more mass with less rope than other stopper knots. It is easy to tie and has seen from the bottom, three very symmetrical edge parten .
application
The Ashley stopper knot is used by sailors as a stopper knot at the end of the rope when other stopper knots are too small. It prevents a rope from slipping through a hole or eye that is up to twice the diameter of the rope.
Knot
Place a left-handed eye (1). This eye consists of a left and a right semicircle.
The loose part (the loose end of the rope) is pushed through the eye as shown. A bay is created .
Alternatives
The double overhand knot gives a smaller stopper knot.
The eight knot can be easily loosened again even after heavy loads.
Modifications
The four and five times Ashley stopper knot.
