Barry Haase

Barry Wayne Haase (born November 19, 1945 in Southern Cross , Western Australia ) is an Australian politician ( Liberal Party of Australia ) and was a member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1998 to 2013 . Since 2014 he has been the administrator of the Cocos Islands and Christmas Island .

Life

Haase served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1964 to 1967 and was active in the catering sector during this time . After leaving the Navy, he continued his professional activity in the catering sector from 1968 to 1978. From 1978 to 1997 he was company director of an air conditioning and facility management company .

In 1998 , Haase was first elected to the Australian House of Representatives for the Kalgoorlie constituency. He was re-elected in the 2001 , 2004 and 2007 parliamentary elections. After the Kalgoorlie constituency was dissolved, Haase ran in 2010 for the Durack constituency, which had emerged from the northern part of the Kalgoorlie constituency. In 2013 he decided not to run again.

In October 2014 he was sworn in as administrator of the Cocos Islands and Christmas Island, replacing Jon Stanhope .

Haase is married and has two children.
